what to expect:

Here’s what you can expect from a mini session with me.

  • plan to arrive early : mini sessions go QUICK! They are booked back-to-back without wiggle room in between. When you arrive early we can start our session according to schedule and maximize the time we have together! Personality Portraits are designed to capture your child’s personality. I’d love to get smiling images but I’d also love to get them being silly/playful. When you arrive early (5min would be plenty!) if you will just hang on the porch or in your car (if it’s raining) as to not interrupt the session before yours. Thank you!

  • address : 1908 Vine Street, Nolensville, TN, 37135 ; Plan to park on the street to be sure that you can come/go for your session time without blocking someone in or getting blocked in :)

  • calm & collected : please do not worry if you child seems less than happy; some of the best photos come from encouraging little ones to play & interact with you as you would if you were at home! For these it may be fun to play “peek-a-boo” or to bring a little animal that can pop out from behind me etc.

  • be ready to play : playing with your littles creates the most authentic moments and genuine smiles. Have some songs in mind that they love to sing or anything special they do with you!

  • props : I am a minimalist when it comes to props, but this would be a good mini session to bring items that could be fun to “dress up” in like a special hat, favorite book, a ball or sports item from a sport they’re passionate about, or sunglasses (but keep in mind how you want to use these images - where you plan to hang them etc.) I wouldn’t go as far as to say that bringing toys for these images would be helpful, but hats/bows/headbands/sunglasses/balls can all be super fun for these!

  • your proof gallery : within 2-3 weeks of your session you will receive your digital gallery for viewing & selecting your favorite images. Personality Portrait Mini Sessions include 8 images from a proof gallery; however, you are always welcome to purchase additional images!

sick safety precautions

At Kelli Barnette Photography, safety is my top priority. Here is what you can expect from me and what I will be asking of clients to prevent unnecessary contamination.

  • Arrival - When you arrive, please leave shoes at the door & wash hands if coming from an activity/event.

  • Sick Symptoms - Please notify me immediately if you or anyone in your family become ill. This is not limited to Covid symptoms but any type of bug, cold or flu as well. I will also notify you if myself or my family should fall ill. I work with vulnerable populations and have to keep everyone’s safety in mind. Your session will need to be postponed until further notice if any one of us are sick. Please don’t arrive to your session if your family is ill in any way. I will need to leave and your retainer fee will not be refunded. However, because these are in my studio and not dependent on anyone else, I can easily reschedule your mini session for when your family is well!

what to wear

Here are a few wardrobe tips to consider when styling your children for their mini session:

  • basics : Think about keeping this session simple. Solids tend to look best or a simple heathered color.

  • colors : This kind of depends on what you’re wanting to achieve. Because the final images will be delivered in black/white, I think whites and light colors ended up being my favorite last year - a little texture can be nice against the white wall as well! If you love super simple, white or grey would be fine too! This is kind of up to your taste! (Refer to my website gallery for personality portraits or on instagram for more example photos).

  • comfort : Definitely bring your kiddos in something they are comfortable in and fits well (rather than being a bit big).

  • barefoot : Most images will be closer up shots but I’m not opposed to some pull-backs of them standing - barefeet are nice for these as they come off more relaxed & fun!

  • outfit changes: Unfortunately due to the time limit on these sessions, there simply isn’t time for outfit changes.

  • props: As mentioned above, please feel free to bring your childs favorite hat/sunglasses/bow/headband. I won’t keep things like this on hand because I would want it to be unique to you, but being summertime minis, these props could be really fun!
